Brecht’s Threepenny Bits
A new cabaret drama by Fiona Evans.
Commissioned by Homer Simpson Productions.
Inspired by the lives of three women writers who worked with Bertolt Brecht to create some of the most celebrated plays of the 20th century, the show will explode the myth of the singular Marxist genius playwright and his harem of lovers who typed up the scripts. Expect a potent mix of cabaret, satire, vaudeville trickery and tap dancing in this provocative and thrilling new piece of musical theatre.
Internationally-acclaimed director, actress and singer Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE will direct the premiere at Theatre Royal Stratford East in Spring 2018.
Oft repeated joke in Weimar Germany among the theatre elite:
Theatre Owner: “I’ll book it! Who wrote the play?”
Impresario: “I told you. Bert Brecht.”
Theatre Owner: “I heard you. Who wrote the play?”
